Lamott Response
I think that the process is more important than the outcome. The rough draft is the time to get all your ideas down and to figure out what you really want to write about. The outcome of your first draft does not matter for me because the rough draft is just a small starting point in the writing process, and you will revise it and make it more professional. Like Lamott says, “The first draft is the child’s draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that no one is going to see it and that you can shape it later” (1). I completely agree with this because its logic is sound for the writing process. It means that what you write on the first draft does not matter you are writing about the correct topic. Getting your ideas down, no matter how unorganized is the real purpose of the first draft.
